enPORTAL grid fee analysis 2026: Electricity falls, gas rises

The new information brochure „enPORTAL grid fee analysis 2026” sheds light on the development of electricity and gas grid fees for companies with an annual consumption of around five million kilowatt hours per consumption point. The analysis is therefore aimed at larger companies in all sectors for which this level of consumption is typical. These include, for example, the chemical industry, mechanical engineering and metal processing, the paper and pulp industry, logistics centres, data centres, the food industry, cold stores, hospitals and wholesale. The analysis is based on data from five exemplary locations - Hamburg, Dresden, Munich, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt - and documents the changes since 2021 as well as the current values for 2026. The results show that While electricity grid fees are falling, gas grid fees are continuing to rise. For companies with multiple locations, it is therefore particularly important to keep an eye on regional differences and the development of grid fees.

Electricity grid fees: significant decrease after record year

Following a sharp rise in electricity grid fees in recent years, particularly in 2024, all of the regions analysed recorded significant decreases again for the first time in 2026. For example, the grid fees in Hamburg will fall by 30.7 %, in Frankfurt by 32.6 %, in Düsseldorf by 26.0 %, in Munich by 25.5 % and in Dresden by 18.5 % compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, costs are still higher than in 2021, meaning that forward-looking cost planning remains essential for companies.

Gas grid fees: still at a high level

Unlike in the electricity sector, gas grid fees will continue to rise in most regions in 2026. Companies in Hamburg (+19.1 %), Munich (+13.8 %), Düsseldorf and Frankfurt (+6.7 % each) will be particularly affected. Only Dresden saw a decline of 6.3 %, following a record increase of 61.4 % in 2025. The annual fluctuations and regional differences make a precise analysis and ongoing monitoring of energy costs essential for all sectors.

Focus on regional differences

The analysis illustrates the different development of grid fees depending on the location. For example, a metal processing or mechanical engineering plant with an annual electricity or gas consumption of 5 GWh in 2026 will pay €211,055 for the electricity grid fee in Hamburg and €60,485 for the gas grid fee, while in Dresden the costs for the electricity grid fee will be €271,886 and for the gas grid fee €97,623. For companies with several locations, it is important to know the regional differences in grid fees so that the different cost trends remain transparent and comprehensible.

Digital solutions for greater transparency and efficiency

In view of the complex and dynamic price developments, enPORTAL recommends the use of digital energy platforms such as „enPORTAL connect”. Via a personal login, companies receive all relevant energy data, from current grid charges and historical developments to detailed information on individual supply points. The automatic updating of data ensures maximum transparency and facilitates strategic planning in energy purchasing.

Clemens Graf von Wedel Geschäftsführer enPORTAL GmbH

„As soon as new grid fee data is published, we update it immediately on our platform. In this way, we ensure that our customers can access all current values at any time at the click of a mouse and can optimise the management of their energy costs,“ says Clemens Graf von Wedel, owner and Managing Director of enPORTAL GmbH.

Practical support for companies in all sectors

For the third time in a row, the platform operator is publishing current values on grid fees. This year's „enPORTAL grid fee analysis 2026“ is aimed specifically at energy buyers and managing directors of companies in all sectors. It provides a practical overview of the effects of regional price developments and shows how digital solutions can help to maintain an overview and recognise cost potential.
