Growth: over 500 suppliers in the portal, new customers from all sectors.
enPORTAL, the pioneer for online energy purchasing based in Hamburg, is maintaining a stable course for success. Last year, customers purchased an average of 12 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity and gas via the tender platform. In 2008, the year the company was founded, the energy demand of all customers registered on the portal was still around 0.8 TWh. Since then, the company has continued to grow. Thus, the procurement volume increases by about 30 to 45 percent per year, and more than 500 energy supply companies are already listed on the portal. enPORTAL records customer gains in all sectors and informs portal users about current market and price developments.
Managed energy volumes in the portal increase continuously
The amount of energy managed by enPORTAL in the web tool has steadily increased within the last few years. Starting in 2008 with around 0.8 TWh, enPORTAL is now the market leader with around 12 terawatt hours, divided into 40 percent electricity and 60 percent gas. In electricity, the volume increased by 19 per cent from 2013 to 2014, and in gas it is even 57 per cent. "There is a clear upward trend in online energy procurement. More and more customers are discovering the benefits of fully web-based energy purchasing. We expect energy volumes to continue to expand and more energy needs to be procured and serviced via our portal in the future," says Clemens Graf von Wedel, Managing Director of enPORTAL.
Customer growth in all sectors
Similarly, there have been positive developments in the customer sector. "In the early years, our customers were mostly from the food industry, hospitals or public clients. In recent years, we have been growing in all sectors. Today, our customers also include automotive suppliers, chemical and logistics companies as well as providers of energy-intensive services and companies with a focus on mechanical and plant engineering," Rainer Otto, founder and CEO of enPORTAL, is pleased to report.
Long-term market observation enables best purchase price
In order for commercial energy buyers to be able to purchase at the optimal price, they must be promptly informed about market developments and be able to react quickly. With the online tools of enPORTAL, all relevant market data as well as customer information are available around the clock. In addition, the German supplier market is almost completely scanned with over 500 suppliers listed in the portal and the data is clearly prepared. "Our customers also use the enPORTAL tools to monitor the energy markets in advance over the long term. If an attractive market opportunity opens up, they start an online tender and often procure the required amount of electricity and gas within hours," explains Rainer Otto. Many companies are already covered with energy until 2018 and are already looking at price developments for 2019 and 2020.
